SELF

In this class, students will have the opportunity to focus on three main things: academics, healthy relationships, and self-concept. Students will work on a variety of academic, social, and leadership skills.

The following is a more thorough list of the goals of SELF class:


Academic Goals

  • Develop critical thinking skills and ability to challenge norms in society and in their community

  • Improve grades by persistence and a deliberate focus to create excellent work

  • Learn study skills to improve expression of knowledge

  • Learn how to effectively advocate for academic needs

Social Goals

  • Develop a positive self-concept  - composed of body image, self-esteem, and identity

  • Determine positive qualities of friendship and leadership  

  • Demonstrate positive online communication strategies

  • Understand the purpose of service learning and developing our community for the betterment of the people and places around you

Practices may include:

  • Team Building

  • Collaboration

  • Goal setting

  • Check grades

  • Advocate for self

  • Large and small group discussion

  • Role Play 

  • Research

  • Mentoring/Service Learning

  • Guest speakers

  • Community partnerships
